Another Speculated James Bond Frontrunner Shuts Down Casting Rumors

It hasn’t been long since Daniel Craig admitted being done with his iconic role as James Bond, and yet rumors surrounding the next actor to take the mantle of the British MI6 agent have never creased until proven otherwise. Some of the most prominently speculated frontrunners to become the next 007 star is Idris Elba, and unfortunately, the actor is not on board with the rumor.

“I love the Bond franchise, I’m very close to the producers,” Elba told The Guardian recently, “We were all kind of laughing about the rumors because they are just that.”

It’s worth noting that while the Luther: The Fallen Sun star had conversations with Eon Productions heads, the topic of being cast as the next Bond did not come up: “I can’t speak for them, but from my perspective, there’s never been any sort of truth to any of [the rumor].”

Kingsman star Taron Egerton also recently debunked his James Bond casting rumor, in which the actor also had nothing positive to bring to the table for fans, “Yeah. I mean, I think they’ve already got someone, and it’s not me.”

In fact, the actor had never met with the producers regarding the role, which makes the rumor null and void, “I’ve never been a part of the conversations. I’ve never met [with] the Broccolis. They’ve never enquired about me. I’ve just never been one of the guys that they’re looking at."

Craig’s tenure ending with 2021’s No Time To Die certainly didn’t leave Eon Productions feeling unconfident in taking the next step of finding the replacement for the role. They have, after all, confirmed that they haven’t started casting a new Bond yet, so it looks like it’s going to take a while before they eventually settle for the next 007 agent after Craig’s time.

In the meantime, James Bond films are available to stream on HBO Max.
