Animated Superman: Red Son is Officially Happening, Cast Revealed

Rumors have been recently going around that an animated Batman: The Long Halloween is in the works, but now we have confirmation of a project that a lot of fans have been looking forward to—Superman: Red Son.

As per Revenge of the Fans, a Red Son project if officially underway, and a full cast list has been released. We don't know who's playing who yet, but RotF has been kind enough to also list down the other characters that people in the cast have voiced:

Amy Acker (Has voiced The Huntress in the past)
Anna Vocino(Has voiced Oracle several times)
Diedrich Bader(Has voiced several DC characters, But Is Best known for Batman)
Greg Chun
Jim Ward(Has voiced Commissioner Gordon various times)
Jason Isaacs(Has voiced Lex Luthor, Sinestro, and Ra's Al Ghul)
Jason Spisak(Has frequently voiced Wally West)
Jim Meskimen(Has voiced Batman and Victor Fries)
Paul Williams(Has frequently voiced Oswald Cobblepott, aka The Penguin)
Phil Lamarr (Has voiced a wide variety of DC characters)
Phil Morris(Has voiced a wide variety of DC characters)
Roger Craig Smith(Voiced Batman in Batman Ninja)
Sasha Roiz
Tara Strong (Best known for voicing Harley Quinn, has also done Raven and Batgirl)
Travis Willingham (Has voiced Superman in several Lego DC projects)
Vanessa Marshall (She's Black Canary on Young Justice, has also been Poison Ivy)
William Salyers (Has voiced both The Penguin and Hugo Strange)
Winter Zoli

While some guess that Diedrich Bader will be voicing Batman for the movie, it's possible that Travis Willingham will be the one to voice the Man of Steel since he's done it so many times before. Then again, DC animated films usually cast big names as the leads, and Bader is probably the one who is most recognizable.

While I would have patiently waited for a Superman: Red Son live-action film, I'm also fine that it's getting an animated adaptation. It's one of my most favorite Elsworld stories from DC, and it's cemented Mark Millar as one of my favorite comic writers.

Just in case you're not familiar with Superman: Red Son, here's the synopsis:

"Imagine a reality where the world's most powerful super-being does not grow up in Smallville, Kansas – or even America, for that matter…

SUPERMAN: RED SON is a vivid tale of Cold War paranoia, that reveals how the ship carrying the infant who would later be known as Superman lands in the midst of the 1950s Soviet Union. Raised on a collective, the infant grows up and becomes a symbol to the Soviet people, and the world changes drastically from what we know – bringing Superman into conflict with Batman, Lex Luthor and many others."

We don't have a release date for Red Son yet, but it's possible that the movie could come out sometime in 2020. Expect some kind of announcement in this year's SDCC.
