It looks like the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be filled with some major stars. A new report suggests that A-lister Angelina Jolie is currently in talks to join Chloe Zhao's The Eternals.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jolie has expressed interest in the new MCU flick which will focus on "superpowered and near-immortal beings known as Eternals and a more monstrous offshoot known as the Deviants that were created by the cosmic beings called Celestials." If a deal is made, the Maleficent: Mistress of Evil actress is expected to take on a lead role.

It is still unclear which Marvel character Jolie will portray in The Eternals. However, the report somehow teased on the possibility that the Academy Award winner will take on the role of Sersi, the Eternal whose abilities include molecular and atomic manipulation and psionic powers. The character famously got a redesign when Neil Gaiman took over the comic books in 2006.

Although The Eternals could be Jolie's first Marvel Studios movie, it's hardly the first comic book film she has worked on. She famously took on the role of The Fox in the live-action adaptation of Mark Millar's comic series Wanted. Considering Jolie's tendency for choosing truly iconic female characters to play, we're expecting great things in The Eternals.

We may need to wait for a while before Jolie's role in The Eternals is confirmed. In the meantime, you can expect to see her reprise her titular role in the Disney sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, which is scheduled for release on October 18.
