Maleficent Sequel Officially Wraps Production

It's been four years since the release of the live-action Maleficent, and the film's success has prompted Disney to come up with a sequel. After three months of shooting, Maleficent 2 has announced a wrap on their production.

Movie director Joachim Ronning shared this on Instagram:

When Maleficent first came out, it was met with a mixed reaction. On one side, a lot of people were intrigued by the new window that we were seeing Maleficent in, but on the other, people thought that it was travesty to one of the most iconic villains that Disney has ever given us.

We still don't know what the main story of the Maleficent sequel is, but the first film did present us with rich lore that included pixies and forest guardians; hopefully we get an official synopsis soon.

Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning are returning to reprise their roles for Maleficent 2, but the cast will also include some new faces like Michelle Pfeiffer (Queen Ingrith), Harris Dickinson (Prince Phillip), Chiwetel Ejiofor (possible love interest for Maleficent), and Ed Skrein as the villain. The movie will also bring back the three pixies played by Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville.

Maleficent 2 is slated for a release on May 29, 2020.
