Webheads were buzzing this week after The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield finally broke his silence and addressed the ongoing rumors linking him to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's upcoming Phase 4 flick Spider-Man: No Way Home. Since the confirmation last year that his TASM 2 villain Electro played by Jamie Foxx will be heading to the MCU, fans immediately assumed that Garfield will follow suit, and quite frankly, it makes all the sense in the world for him to be part of the project.

However, Garfield shut down the rumor mill and said he's not received any calls from either Marvel Studios or Sony Pictures to reprise his web-slinging role. He stayed firm about his declaration in another interview where the British actor made it clear that he's no longer interested in playing the character, pretty much confirming that his days as Spidey are already behind him.

Now, in a stunning new development, Andrew seems to have taken back his previous denial and offered a promising update regarding his future as Spider-Man and his possible involvement in No Way Home. In a new interview with Access, Garfield said: "I've heard all the rumors of everything, and to be frank, I think it's a really cool idea. Yeah, it's a really cool idea. But as I've said previously, it's not something that...God, I hate being given the responsibility of disappointing people. But, yeah, no. It's not something that I've been asked about [by Marvel Studios] or anything like that, but, you know, never say never."

Andrew's previous denial doesn't really tell much and if anything, he's being forced to keep his involvement a secret to avoid giving away spoilers and we can't exactly fault him for "lying" about his potential comeback as our friendly neighborhood Marvel hero. Hopefully, Marvel will finally shed some light on the rumors and gives us our first official look at the film in the coming months or weeks even.

Spider-Man: No Way Home hits cinemas in December 2021.
