Andrew Garfield Gets Mocked Following Claim that He Went Sexless for Movie Role

Andrew Garfield may be associated by comic book film fans with Spider-Man but he's had a pretty "amazing" acting resume outside of the Marvel realm. The British star, who considers himself a method actor is lauded for his dedication to his craft and his list of accolades speaks for itself. However, some of his acting preparations have been deemed questionable by some of his colleagues, including actress Drew Barrymore.

The multi-awarded actress threw massive shade on the Spider-Man: No Way Home actor on the September 20th episode of her talk show The Drew Barrymore Show (via Decider) after Garfield claimed that he gave up sex for six months before filming Martin Scorsese's 2016 religious drama film Silence.

She joked: "I get abstaining from sex, I mean I did that my entire 20s, right? What's wrong with me that six months doesn't seem like a very long time? I was like, 'Yeah so?'"

The Batman & Robin star did clarify that she's also performed method acting in the past, saying: "I definitely, on certain projects, like when I did Grey Gardens, this film I did where I played beloved real-life woman Edie Beale, I was so nervous I didn't really chit chat with everybody on set, I just really stayed in character."

Meanwhile, fans are still hopeful that Andrew will once again suit up as the web-slinging Marvel hero in a third Amazing Spider-Man project. Rumor has it that the 39-year-old star could be getting a new solo project, on top of him and Tobey Maguire reportedly appearing in Avengers: Secret Wars although both rumors have yet to be confirmed.
