Andor Showrunner Pauses Work In Solidarity with WGA Strike

The ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) has affected numerous film and TV projects across Hollywood as writers are currently not allowed to do any work while the strike is happening.

As a result, some projects have temporarily suspended their production while there are others that still decided to continue filming without the involvement of the showrunner or the writers.

In the case of the Star Wars series Andor, a recent report claimed that showrunner Tony Gilroy was still continuing his work on the series in a non-writing capacity as the scripts were already completed before the strike commenced.

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Gilroy had ceased doing any non-writing duty for Andor in solidarity with the WGA strike.

He also clarified that, prior to his decision to temporarily cease his duties for the show, he was not present on the set since the strike started and has not done any changes to the dialogues or stage direction since guild members are forbidden to do so during the strike.

"I discontinued all writing and writing-related work on Andor prior to midnight, May 1," he said in a statement to the outlet.

"After being briefed on the Saturday showrunner meeting, I informed [co-chair of the negotiating committee] Chris Keyser at the WGA on Sunday morning that I would also be ceasing all non-writing producing functions."

So far, Lucasfilm has not commented on Gilroy's decision regarding his involvement in the series during the strike and there are no details yet on whether there will be changes to their production plan as a result of the strike's impact.

This is certainly going to impact the production of the series since they don't have a showrunner at the helm and it wouldn't be surprising if we will hear soon that Lucasfilm decides to halt the filming until the strike ends. We should be hearing more updates about it soon.
