Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 continues to give us standout character moments that we never got from the main movies, particularly the prequels. Through this show, Anakin Skywalker has actually proven to be a likable character with believable flaws, which makes his inevitable downfall all the more tragic. In the latest episode, Unfinished Business, Anakin is forced to go to a dark place to achieve peace for The Republic, continuing to show the intriguing shades of grey this series is known for.
During a battle between The Republic's forces and The Separatists, they finally reach a tipping point where the good guys can win if they hold these armed forces off for a bit longer. However, a desperate Admiral Trench decides to call for a bomb that will destroy half of the planet, including some of The Republic's forces and the shipyards that they need so much.
Anakin threatens Trench if he doesn't give up the codes to stop the bomb but the admiral says the Jedi's nobility prevents him from doing any actual damage. Not knowing how Anakin acts, the soon-to-be Darth Vader proceeds to slice off three of his six arms with his lightsaber. Trench then relents and gives him the code to stop the bomb.
It was a dark moment to be sure but no one can really blame Anakin for what he did here. Yes, he hurt somebody badly but it was for the benefit of a planet and The Republic's forces. No one should be questioning Anakin's actions though we're sure it will lead to something down the road.
