Already teased in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey and Kylo Ren somehow had this unexplainable connection. As the story progressed and with the release of The Rise of Skywalker, it is now known that their Force bond is as powerful as life and the pair were revealed to be the prophesied dyad. The films didn't get into detail as to where all of this might have started, and now, The Rise of Kylo Ren comic series proves the Force bond has always been there, it just wasn't that prominent.

This article contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren #4.

In the fourth and final issue of the series, Ben Solo's mission with the Knights of Ren took a turn for the worse. Ben was hesitant to kill innocent people under Ren's orders, and he even encounters his former friends Voe and Tai in the process.

When Tai tries to appease Ben by dropping his saber and talking some sense into him, Ren snaps Tai's neck with the use of the Force. Ben has always had a deep friendship with Tai, which is why witnessing his death was the final push that he needed to make his fall.

Filled with rage, Ben ensues a fight with Ren, drawing all his anger and hate to him. Just as he was doing this, Ben hears several voices in his head, particularly Palpatine's, urging him to strike Ren and claim his "birthright." Eventually, he did kill Ren, which marks his turn to the dark side. This caused a disturbance that his mother Leia Organa felt, and surprisingly, even a Young Rey as well.

The panel was certainly unexpected, which shows that Rey felt something cold while that fight ensued. This basically confirms that they have always had that connection long before being revealed in the sequel trilogy films. They have had this Force bond before Rey even knew Kylo, long before they crossed paths, which means it has always been there without them being aware of it yet.
