American Gods Star Says Starz Show Is 'More Beautiful' Than Game of Thrones

There is little doubt that American Gods is an awesome series. But could it possibly be "more beautiful" than Game of Thrones? Ricky Whittle believes the Starz show is better than the HBO series.

Whittle, who will return as Shadow Moon in American Gods Season 2, recently spoke to Digital Spy about the series probably replacing Game of Thrones. After all, the HBO show will be airing its final season this April. Interestingly, Whittle says that "American Gods is a more complicated show."

"I don't think it's going to replace anything. I feel it's something completely fresh. When people say it's the next Game of Thrones, I think they mean that it's a big expensive show, it's a monster of a show. I think [American Gods] is even more beautiful, I really do," Whittle said. "Ian McShane said it right, Game of Thrones is 'tits and dragons'."

Ouch. That's certainly a scathing remark from a former Game of Thrones actor (McShane appeared in one episode in the sixth season). However, there is little doubt that both McShane and Whittle are fully invested in their own series now that the stakes are higher.

Whittle stated that the first season served as an introduction to the characters and that Season 2 will draw the viewers in as their stories continue.

"In season two, you know the world, you know the players, now you're invested. Now you want to follow Sweeney and Laura, now you want to follow Bilquis, you want to follow Tech Boy, and Mr. World, and Wednesday and Shadow. You want to see more of characters developing these relationships, watching these dynamics evolve because you care more."

We're certainly looking forward to all the action this week.

American Gods Season 2 premieres on Starz on March 10.
