American Gods Star Has Talked About Starring in Green Lantern Corps

News has just come out recently that Idris Elba was in talks to replace Will Smith in Suicide Squad 2, and though a lot of fans think he's a great actor, they would have much preferred him in a major superhero role. Green Lantern Corps is a movie being thrown around a lot, and American Gods actor Ricky Whittle reveals that he has had talks about starring in the film.

Talking to SYFY Wire, Whittle explained:

"We know that Green Lantern Corps is coming out. I've had conversations, and to be in the conversation is a big honor. That's all I can really ever ask for. Lots of fans have been campaigning for me. If they can get me Green Lantern, too, we are going to have to do something special. I'm going to have to start doing tours in full costume and go and watch with all the fans. But, yeah, I would love to be a part of that world. Hopefully, they do it justice this time."

It was rumored that the Green Lantern Corps movie would be a buddy cop film with a grizzled Hal Jordan teaching newbie Jon Stewart the ropes. Ever since the DCEU made a major overhaul, we haven't heard any updates for the film though. Hopefully, it won't take too long for WB to decide whether they're already past the bomb that was Justice League and are ready to move forward with more DC movies.

Who eventually lands the role of Jon Stewart is a mystery, but I think Whittle may be too busy working on American Gods to star in a movie. If he can find the time in his schedule, I would pretty much love to see his take on the character. Other than that, I think Idris Elba would have been better suited for the role.

Just save Deadshot and replace him with Joe Manganiello's Deathstroke, James Gunn!

Ricky Whittle stars in American Gods 2 which premieres on March 10.
