American Gods 2 has Found Their Replacement for Gillian Anderson's Media

Though the first season got a great reception from critics, Neil Gaiman was said not to have been pleased with the way Bryan Fuller was running things. Now Fuller (and his co-showrunner Michael Green) is out with Jesse Alexander as the new showrunner, but Gillian Anderson won't be back to play the Goddess of Media.

As per Amazon Prime Video (via ScreenRant), Kahyun Kim is now stepping in as New Media. Anderson herself was said to have left the role after it was revealed that original showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green were leaving the show. So far, it looks like all the other original actors like Ian McShane and Ricky Whittle are still set to play their original characters.

Though I do like Anderson, I wonder why the series didn't just follow the book and not give media an official "face." In the novel, Media would just present itself in the form of whoever was on the television at the time. When Shadow was alone with a screen, characters just stop whatever they were doing and start talking to him as ‘Media.'

I have a feeling they're already have an explanation for Media's new form in the show. Hopefully it comes out more organic than having to explain that Anderson quit the show.

American Gods 2 comes out sometime in 2019.
