The production of the first season was finished earlier this week, with the show expected to be released later in the year. In an interview with Variety, showrunner Rafe Judkins said that the faith that Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios showed The Wheel of Time has been truly incredible.

Judkins further noted that getting a second season before the first season has premiered shows the confidence that the studios have for the series and the property itself. He added that they are happy to continue working in the world that Rober Jordan has created.

The Wheel of Time is a story set in the world that is still in the recovery phase from The Breaking of the World. It was a cataclysmic event in ancient times that has tainted the magic of the males. One magic-user named Moiraine crossed paths with a group of teenagers in the remote center of the world. They discover that one of them might be the reincarnation of the Dragon, who is either destined to save or destroy the world.

The Wheel of Time series is vastly popular among fantasy novel fans, which is often compared to the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin. The series was written by Robert Jordan until his death. The outlines left by Jordan were later finished by Brandon Sanderson.
