The Boys showrunner is relieved that he can see through his original five-season plan for the hit Prime Video series.

Announcing the news on X ahead of the Season 4 premiere on June 13, Eric Kripke promises to close the journey of Billy Butcher and his anti-Supes crew with a “gory, epic, moist climax.”

Previously, Kripke has been coy in revealing The Boys’ future after Amazon confirmed its renewal for a fifth season, learning from his previous show Supernatural, which ran for 15 seasons despite aiming for just five seasons.

In an interview, he shares: “Five just seems like a good round number. It's enough to tell the story but also bring it to a climax without wearing out its welcome.”

What should audiences expect in The Boys Season 5?

Season 5 is still a work in progress in the writers’ room, but Kripke shares a few details about the production, which includes an optimistic filming schedule by mid-November 2024 for the usual eight episodes. The premiere for Season 5 is not yet set.

Kripke also emphasises that The Boys’ final season will be the culmination of the rivalry between Butcher (Karl Urban) and Homelander (Antony Starr), “two planets crashing into each other.” He adds, “This particular story doesn’t work without both of them. You can only keep that going for so long.”

What’s next after The Boys?

While The Boys versus The Seven feud ends when the show ends, the showrunner hints at a bigger universe waiting for fans. "With any luck, Gen V will continue on, there will be hopefully a couple others in development that we're talking about that can continue on.”

Gen V, a spinoff about up-and-coming Supes, has already been renewed for a second season. Two other projects are confirmed to be currently in development.
