Amazon is having a moment that could only happen in Doctor Who. The streaming service has accidentally leaked the next Series 11 episode instead of the current one that was an unmistakable nod to Jeff Bezos' company.
According to io9, Amazon Video users who were trying to view the current episode Kerblam! ended up watching next Sunday's episode. The Witchfinders, which is the show's eighth episode this year, has yet to air on BBC. However, as of Wednesday, it has been viewed by shocked (and possibly pleased) subscribers.
There is little doubt that the leak was accidental. Nevertheless, it's interesting to note that the episode that people had been hoping to watch was the one that featured a so-called "space Amazon" complete with robot workers. Instead, the subscribers found themselves viewing an episode that brought them back to the 17th century. Even the Time Lord might get a kick out of that.
On a more serious note, BBC has addressed the leak and is already looking into the situation.
"We're aware that an upcoming episode of Doctor Who was made available to Amazon Prime users in the US in error. We are investigating how this happened and have taken the steps to remove it. BBC Studios would like to apologize if anyone's enjoyment of the series has been spoiled by this mishap."
Fans who are wondering if the leak is still available might be disappointed. Amazon has reportedly corrected the error so subscribers can finally get to see Kerblam! instead of The Witchfinders. In this case, we'll need to wait until this Sunday to see the next episode.
