Drake has dramatically changed his life through his great rapping talent. Coming from a low-income family, he has successfully climbed the ladder of success and is now one of the highest-paid entertainers in the world.

He is now a rap superstar and one of the most known artists in the music scene. But before Drake has attained this success, take a look at how he started and how rich he has become today.

Drake Starts Conquering the Music Scene

The 35-year-old star showed interest in acting and singing when he was in college. He was 15 when an acting agent helped him have a role in the Canadian teen TV drama Degrassi: The Next Generation.

He played the role of Jimmy Brooks from Seasons 1 to 7 and had guest appearances in 2008. His salary from this show, $50,000 annually or $2000 per month after taxes, helped him and his family survive following his mother’s illness, making her unable to work.

From there, he started releasing mixtapes. His first mixtape, Room for Improvement, was out in 2005 and sold over 6,000 copies.

It was followed by his second mixtape, Comeback Season, in 2006, through his own label October’s Very Own or OVO Records. It featured the hit underground song “Replacement Girl,” which music video became the first one to be featured on BET from an unsigned Canadian rapper.

Rap-A-Lot Records founder Jas Prince heard the single and had Lil Wayne listen to it. Impressed by his talent, the latter called Drake and invited him to fly to Houston to join his Tha Carter III tour.

Their tour then turned into a collaboration, writing and recording several songs, like “Brand New,” “Forever,” and “Ransom.”
