Midi-chlorians are minuscule sentient life forms associated with the foundation of life in the Galaxy. They live in people's cells.

The Force speaks through them and those with a high enough count are Force-sensitive and, therefore, have the potential to use the Force if they're trained.

Midi-chlorians are discussed in The Making of Star Wars (2007), penned by Jonathan W. Rinzler, although George Lucas allegedly came up with the concept as early as the 1970s.

The tiny life forms are also brought up in the first movie of the prequel trilogy The Phantom Menace, where Qui-Gon talks to a young Anakin Skywalker about midi-chlorians and their nature.

Overall, midi-chlorians are a bit of a contested topic in the Star Wars fandom.

Some fans don't mind them and even enjoy speculating about different characters' counts.

Others wish that midi-chlorians didn't exist, as they would prefer the Force to remain a soft magical system with the focus being on its spiritual elements rather than on any 'logical' explanations.

While midi-chlolrians are only a concern for those with a higher-than-normal count, everyone in the Galaxy has some.

A regular person has around 1,500 midi-chlorians per cell. Someone who is sensitive to the ways of the Force would have at least four times that.

We don't have real insights on Ahsoka Tano's midi-chlorian count, so we can only speculate. Most fan theories lean towards a count of around 15k -16k midi-chlorians per cell.

Some fans think that her count would be closer to 14k to account for characters whom they believe to be stronger.

While Ahsoka's midi-chlorian count is probably under 20k, she's definitely in the higher tier. Her near-deaths suggest that she's a key person as far as the Force is concerned.

The Force is undoubtedly strong with Ahsoka, although we can name a few characters with a higher midi-chlorian count, particularly Anakin, her own master.

As a child of nine, Anakin had a midi-chlorian count that surprised Qui-Gon, prompting him to advocate for training Anakin as a Jedi.

By the time he reached adulthood, Anakin had a mid-chlorian count of over 20 thousand -- the biggest number known in the Galaxy.

Because midi-chlorians reside in cells, it's believed that Anakin's count reduced when he lost all his limbs and became Darth Vader.

Luke is more of a mystery; due to being the chosen one's son, we would say that he also has a very high midi-chlorian count, possibly more so than Ahsoka.

That being said, Ahsoka is potentially more powerful due to a lifetime of training and studying among the best.
