Baylan Skoll became one of the standout characters throughout the eight-episode run of Ahsoka. Fans are crediting Ray Stevenson's wonderful performance as one of the reasons why the character made such a strong impression.

However, considering Stevenson's untimely passing last May, there have been questions about whether Baylan's journey will still continue in a potential second season and recast with another actor.

Now, the creator behind the series has finally addressed the potential future of the character in the franchise following the death of its actor.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Ahsoka creator and newly-minted Lucasfilm chief creative officer Dave Filoni addressed Baylan Skoll's arc in the series and his antagonistic presence in the story.

"He’s a person that survived the Clone Wars, that was trained in the waxing-waning days of the Jedi Knights, just like Anakin. He saw his order, his way of life fall apart. And he’s basically deemed it a failure: That way did not work. That it’s not something worth resurrecting," he explained.

"He’s tried to take these teachings that he learned as a young person and create his own way of being. And he’s looked at the cycle of things and said, ‘Enough with this. If I have this power, I should wield it. I should be the one making decisions,’ which a lot of people with power decide that’s the way to go. He’s also very certain that what he’s doing now is the right thing."

Regarding the future of the character, Filoni stated that his story is not yet over and they haven't made a decision yet whether they will actually continue his journey with another actor or retire him for good.

"Obviously, there’s a story there. We’re in a wait-and-see pattern at this point. But I’m glad the conversation is about Ray and how great he was," he said.

"I used to have mini-debates with him and say, ‘Ray, you’re the villain here.’ And he’d be like, ‘I don’t think so.’ I was like, ‘I know you don’t think so, but you are. I love that you’re playing it like you’re not.’ Which is exactly the way Baylan thinks."

It was clear by the end of the first season that Baylan's journey was far from over and there's a new storyline that they could tackle with the character if they decide to pick it up on a potential second season.

However, it might be challenging for some fans to see him continue with a different actor and it is interesting to see what decision will Filoni make for the character if they decide to move forward.

Ahsoka is available to stream on Disney+.
