Agent Carter Star Won’t be Next Doctor Who

Talks of seeing Agent Carter actress Hayley Atwell stepping into the shoes of Doctor Who as a Time Lady have been silenced. The actress herself has rethought the notion of playing the role.

During an appearance in London at a Heroes and Villains Fanfest (via Geek Feed), Atwell commented that the role may not be the best one for her direction right now.

"I don't want to play it. no. It's just not my thing, but I really respect it."

She added that, as a big fan of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Atwell felt that her fellow actress would play the part even better. For her, the talks with Waller-Bridge was something that was promising, if only because of her uniqueness as an actress.

Previously, Atwell had been psyched with the idea of potentially becoming the first Time Lady in the franchise. This is basically TV history at its finest considering the long-standing record of Doctor Who on TV.

While Atwell is no longer in the running for the role, it's not yet a done deal with Waller-Bridge. Besides her, other hopefuls for the pivotal role include Tilda Swinton, Olivia Coleman, and Maxine Peake. At the same time, there is also still the big possibility of BBC sticking with another male Doctor Who character for the next regeneration.

For now, Doctor Who fans can enjoy and admire Peter Capaldi's last few episodes as the Time Lord. The tenth season of Doctor Who is currently airing every Saturday on BBC 1 and BBC America.
