Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer recently addressed the Mephisto namedrop in the recently-aired third episode.
As most fans remember, back when WandaVision was airing, there were a lot of theories that Mephisto might be the mastermind behind the Hex situation in Westview. However, that did not come to fruition.
Fortunately, in the recent episode, Mephisto was finally namedropped when Jennifer Kale casually mentioned him during an exchange with Teen. Fans have been speculating whether it would lead to his appearance later in the series.
Agatha All Along Showrunner Explains Episode 3's Mephisto Namedrop
In a recent interview, Schaeffer was asked whether the Mephisto namedrop in the third episode of Agatha All Along would lead to his eventual appearance.
While she didn't confirm that Mephisto will appear in the series, she teased that the namedrop may not just be an easter egg.
"With these shows, so often there is something that is at once a joke and a wink and a nod, and actually has something legitimate underneath it," the showrunner said.
"As we all know, Mephisto is a character who's very wrapped into Agatha's storyline. I mean, people have to watch, but we're always playing with the audience in that way."
After seeing how the Mephisto fan theory became such a huge sensation when WandaVision was airing, perhaps Schaeffer and her writing team considered that when they working on the series and see if they could integrate him into their mythology.
The character is also reportedly set to make an appearance soon in the upcoming series Ironheart with Sacha Baron Cohen playing him.
It is interesting to see what kind of plans they have in store for Mephisto's potential appearance and whether it will have some ramifications for the overall supernatural side of the MCU.
