There could only be one Blade, according to the slayer in Deadpool and Wolverine. However, Abbot Elementary managed to pull one over the MCU when Ava showed up as the famed daywalker in season 4 of the hit ABC series!
Could the workplace sitcom be throwing shade at the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Let's find out!
Abbott Elementary 'Indirectly Mocks' the MCU Through Ava's Blade Costume
Halloween episodes are no strange thing in Abbott Elementary. If anything, sitcoms made good use of their holiday episodes, and Abbott couldn't get enough references to fit in one episode.
Abbott Elementary season 4 episode 4 titled Costume Contest sees the faculty and its students dress up for the occasion in hopes of winning the honor on stage.
Ava Coleman goes all out with hers as she struts into school sporting the female version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Blade.
This is in reference to when the Daywalker re-entered the franchise through Deadpool and Wolverine's multiversal storyline.
While Abbott Elementary doesn't necessarily 'mock' anything about the MCU, it does put things into perspective on how it took this long before the comic book franchise had Blade back on set.
Not to mention, Wesley Snipes' return to the MCU shockingly didn't push through and the Blade reboot movie with Mahershala Ali gets indefinitely delayed past November 2025.
The Mockumentary Sitcom Previously Had Storm and Black Panther on Board
Blade was not the first MCU superhero that Abbott Elementary referenced in the sitcom.
Previously, Ava, like the diva she is, came to school dressed up as X-Men's Storm aka Ororo Munroe with the classic silver caped suit.
However, Abbott also had an interesting take on the big Black Panther recast argument.
While the MCU refused to recast Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther after his death, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever decided to pass the torch to his sister, Shuri.
Abbott Elementary had a more controversial take. When Janine initially thought that a Black kid was sporting the Black Panther costume to school, taking the mask off to a white kid portraying the role sent an uncomfortably ironic message to fans who knew the debate around the recast.
