Legendary actress Talia Shire (The Godfather, Rocky) will be guest-starring as Melissa Schemmenti's mother. Bette Midler previously lobbied for the role, but it is unknown why she didn't end up being cast.
Meanwhile, Tyler Perez is set to play Jacob's brother in the first part of the hour-long holiday special.

It will be the show's last new episode this year before they go on a holiday break. The season will resume airing with episode 9 on January 8, which will be the long-awaited crossover event with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
