9-Year-Old Magic: The Gathering Player Dana Fischer Makes Her First Limited Grand Prix Day 2

Last weekend, 9-year-old Magic: The Gathering player Dana Fischer made it Day 2 for the first time ever in a Limited Grand Prix, in MagicFest Reno 2020, making it her third Day 2 finish in any Grand Prix event, proving to herself that she's not just a Modern/Elves specialist, but can perform well in multiple formats. This is also her 2nd Day 2 finish in her last three MTG Grand Prix events after she set a world record for becoming the youngest Magic player to win cash at a Grand Prix in January.

In the first day of Grand Prix Reno, Dana constructed a Black/White Theros Beyond Death Sealed with a splash of green for "Calix, Destiny's Hand":

Dana had her best start at a GP at 5-0 and even then topped that to go 6-0, hitting Top 10 in standings after Round 6.

According to Dana's father, she practiced Sealed a lot, having done over 20 Sealed builds before the GP, and finished 7-2 in Sealed. She had done only a few drafts since her main goal was to make Day 2 in a Limited GP in the first place, and she also had never done the whole timed and rigorous process version of a Draft used for Day 2 of a GP.

The length of the Grand Prix event and lack of sleep relative to what she needs at her age (11+ hours) took its toll, and her father said that her fatigue showed in her play in the last round of Saturday and much of Sunday. Dana finished the GP with an 8-7 record, and although she didn't win cash in this GP, she still had an awesome time at the event, and even posed with MTG cosplayers Old Man Urza and Para Celine:
