Following the release of the 13th volume last week, it was revealed that the 86 Eighty-Six light novel is entering its final arc in Volume 14. This means the story’s ending is finally coming soon.
This drew some strong reactions from fans, with many being a bit sad that the series’ ending is coming. On the flip side, fans are also happy that the series isn’t being extended at the cost of quality.
Whatever the case may be, the light novel’s final arc has also renewed fans’ hopes for the anime’s second season to be confirmed.
Fans Are Still Clamoring for an 86 Anime Season 2
The 86 anime was produced by A-1 Pictures, the popular studio behind hit titles like Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, as well as the ongoing Solo Leveling anime.
86’s first season began in April 2021, with its first 11 episodes airing in the spring season. As it had a split-cour schedule, the next part aired in the Fall 2021 season. Its final two episodes were delayed to March 2022 though.
Since then, the series has not been renewed for a new season, despite the show’s popularity in 2021. Because of the news about the light novel, the clamor for Season 2 was renewed online.
Given the popularity of the anime’s first season, it’s likely that the show will be renewed at some point. After all, some light novel-turned-anime have taken a while to be renewed like KonoSuba.
One possibility is that because the novel series is beginning its final arc, the anime’s production committee may be waiting for it to conclude.

86 Light Novel Series’ Ending Date Is Still Up in the Air
Despite the anime not being renewed yet, the 86 light novel series has continued to get new volumes.
Even though the output has slowed down a bit in the last couple of years, the series creators are still dedicated to the series.
In Japan, the novel series’ 13th volume was released on January 10. There, it was revealed that the story will soon begin its final arc titled District 86.
For now, there’s no word yet on when the next volume will be released. Given that the previous two volumes were released one year apart, there’s a chance we’ll see Volume 14 as late as 2025.
In the US, the series is published in English by Yen Press, with the last release being Volume 12 in November 2023.
