Oscar-nominated veteran actor Graham Greene has passed away at the age of 73 after a long battle with illness.
He was considered a trailblazer, as he opened doors for more Indigenous presentations in Hollywood, including a historic Oscar nomination for his performance in Dances with Wolves. Throughout his career, he played scene-stealing characters in various projects and even joined the MCU in the TV series Echo.
Here are the five movies starring Graham Greene to watch in celebration of his life and legacy.
Dances with Wolves

This list will not be complete without Dances with Wolves, in which Greene co-starred and served as his breakthrough in mainstream Hollywood. As we've mentioned, he received his first and only Oscar nomination for his performance in the film.
Greene's character, Kicking Bird (Ziŋtká Nagwáka), was the beating heart of the film, as he became our eyes into the Lakota tribe and the reason why the audience was invested in their journey. You can argue that without him, the film may not have received the acclaim that it received.
Die Hard with a Vengeance

While Die Hard with a Vengeance features Jeremy Irons and Samuel L. Jackson in its cast, Greene managed to steal scenes in the film, and his character became one of the favorites among audiences who watched it.
The film also gave Greene an opportunity to showcase his range by playing a contemporary police character who is mission-oriented and can interact with the other main characters on an equal level.
The Green Mile

While Greene didn't have a lot of screen time in The Green Mile, his character, Arlen Bitterbuck, still managed to break a lot of hearts, and we saw the challenges of the inside of a death row facility through his eyes.
While the film's portrayal of the death row procedure received criticism for being inaccurate, it didn't affect the audience's experience watching the film, and his character's execution led to the darker themes that will be tackled in the moments after.
Transamerica

Greene played the main character's friend/potential love interest in the acclaimed independent film Transamerica. He became the audience's window to empathize with Bree's journey.
The late actor's performance was widely praised for having "charming earthiness," and his character's romantic liking of Bree was significant for audiences since "he's allowed to be open-minded because he's a Navajo -- in other words, a spiritually open-minded outsider, as opposed to your typical Middle American."
Molly's Game

Greene didn't have a lot of screen time in Molly's Game, but he still made a mark as he managed to turn an ordinary judge character into a scene-stealing figure in the story of the film.
It was also a pleasant working experience for the late actor, as he played a character type he had never played before. He said in an interview, "Aaron, the director, was looking at me sitting behind the bench. I had a puzzled look on my face. He said, 'Are you all right?' I said, 'Yeah. I've just never seen the bench from this side before.'"
