Rogue One’s Chirrut and Baze Will Get Their Own Star Wars Novel

Jyn is not the only one who will be getting her own novel. The epic duo Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus are also getting their own backstories laid out to extend the Star Wars lore further into the universe.

The novel, titled Star Wars: Guardians of the Whills, will be penned by Greg Rucka. The story will delve into the time that Chirrut and Baze were still Guardians of the Whills who guarded the Kyber Temple on Jedha as well as the worshippers there.

It will also cover what happens when the Empire strikes Jedha and basically wreaks havoc on the duo's area of responsibility. Its Amazon listing not only gives a sneak peek of the novel cover, but also a synopsis of what exactly we'll be reading about.

"An exciting adventure about two of the brave heroes from the smash hit movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story! On the desert world of Jedha, in the Holy City, friends Baze and Chirrut used to be Guardians of the Whills, who looked after the Kyber Temple and the devoted pilgrims who worshipped there. Then the Empire came and took over the planet. The temple was destroyed and the people scattered. Now Baze and Chirrut do what they can to resist the Empire and protect the people of Jedha, but it never seems to be enough. Then a man named Saw Gerrera arrives, with a militia of his own and grand plans to take down the Empire. It seems like the perfect way for Baze and Chirrut to make a real difference and help the people of Jedha live better lives. But will it come at too great a cost?"

Star Wars: Guardians of the Whills may come in both a digital Kindle Edition as well as a hardcover version for $12.99. Currently, preorder for the digital title is not yet available. The book will be 240 pages long.

Compared to the Jyn Orso-focused Star Wars: Rebel Rising official listing over at Disney, Star Wars: Guardians of the Whills is still listed on Amazon complete with the cover, but you can also see it above. Star Wars: Guardians of the Whills will be out on May 2.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the successful standalone movie outside the usual episodic films. It's up for nominations at the Annual Academy Awards for the Best Visual Effects and the Sound Mixing categories.
