Star Wars Novel Title & Synopsis Reveal Jyn’s Backstory

Disney may have pre-empted an announcement for a Star Wars novel that will feature Jyn Orso's backstory.

According to fan site Making Star Wars, the young adult novel, titled Star Wars: Rebel Rising, will look into Jyn's past. Specifically, it will focus on the story that we basically time-skipped in Rogue One, which was the time she was taken under the wing of Saw Gerrera and his rebels.

Alongside the announcement, Disney had already released the official description for Star Wars: Rebel Rising, seen below:

"When Jyn Erso was five years old, her mother was murdered and her father taken from her to serve the Empire. But despite the loss of her parents she is not completely alone—Saw Gerrera, a man willing to go to any extremes necessary in order to resist Imperial tyranny, takes her in as his own, and gives her not only a home but all the abilities and resources she needs to become a rebel herself.

Jyn dedicates herself to the cause—and the man. But fighting alongside Saw and his people brings with it danger and the question of just how far Jyn is willing to go as one of Saw's soldiers. When she faces an unthinkable betrayal that shatters her world, Jyn will have to pull the pieces of herself back together and figure out what she truly believes in... and who she can really trust."

There's also a sneak peek of the cover for the novel, which focuses on Jyn, while a few soldiers are seen in silhouettes. While the official page for the Star Wars: Rebel Rising has been taken down, the page with the available preview chapters for the novel are still up.

This is definitely a good addition to the canon lore of Star Wars as a whole. Even though Rogue One is technically a standalone movie outside the franchise, it connects the events happening between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

Jyn herself is a pretty interesting character, and even though we had to say goodbye to her and the entire Rogue One team, we know that their successful mission brought hope to the Rebel Alliance.

Star Wars: Rebel Rising will be released on May 2.
