Charlie Hunnam Reveals Whether Raleigh Will Be Involved in Pacific Rim 2

Charlie Hunnam reveals that his character, Raleigh Becket, will not be heavily involved in the sequel to Pacific Rim, Yahoo! reports. In the first Pacific Rim movie, Hunnam was one of the leads, but he was forced to exit the production of Pacific Rim: Maelstrom fairly early on due to scheduling conflicts. However, despite his limited involvement, he was still enthusiastic about the sequel.

"I'm very excited about it! I'm glad they're making it," he said when interviewed at the San Diego Comic Con. "I think it's going to be great. I read an early draft of what they're doing. There was one incarnation of this sequel that involved me heavily, but I was unavailable." Hunnam lack of availability isn't altogether surprising, as he's currently involved in a lot of projects: King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, The Lost City of Z and possibly the Sons of Anarchy spin-off.

Hunnam has hopes for the sequel movie being as good as the first Pacific Rim, even without his presence. "I think they're on to something special. They're really inspired to push this thing forward and to do something original with the sequels. It's cool."

Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is scheduled to premiere February 23, 2018 and will have John Boyega in a lead role as Stacker Pentecoast's son.

I like Charlie Hunnam as an actor, so it's a shame he's not more involved, but I think the movie will likely be fine without him. I'll be much more disappointed if Rinko Kukichi's Mako Mori character isn't in the movie a lot. Considering she was raised by Stacker Pentecoast, she would have grown up with John Boyega's character and I'm curious to see what kind of relationship and dynamic they have. How do you feel about Hunnam's lack of involvement in the new movie?
