John Boyega Lands Pacific Rim 2 Lead Role

Pacific Rim 2 might have a bright future after all, after going through develpment hell. Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega just landed a lead role for the sequel to Guillermo del Toro's 2013 robots vs. monsters film, Deadline reports. Boyega will play the son of Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba) and he'll most likely get to pilot a mech to battle the Kaijus.

Guillermo del Toro, who's producing the film, said this about the casting decision:

"I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. ThePacific Rimuniverse will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world' was our goal and I couldn't think of a better man for the job."

I'm glad to hear that Boyega landed a lead role. He's a brilliant actor. Steven S. DeKnight is directing the sequel, which is expected to begin production at the end of this year. With Daredevil's former head writer directing the film, Jurassic World 2writer penning it, and John Boyega starring, I don't see how this franchise would fail to rise.
