Pacific Rim 2 To Be Directed By Daredevil's Head Writer Steven S. DeKnight

It looks like the sequel to Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim (2013) is still happening after all, and according to The Wrap, the next robots vs. giants movie will be directed by Daredevil Season 1 showrunner Steven S. DeKnight. Pacific Rim 2 marks DeKnight's feature film debut, and will be released by Universal Pictures worldwide in 3D.

This news may come as sa surprise to fans who thought Pacific Rim 2 was canceled. Back in October 2015, Del Toro said the film's budget and script had been turned in, but nothing the sequel wasn't green-lit.

Here's what Pacific Rim screenwriter Travis Beacham told The Nerdist back in November:

"I can just say that if I were betting on it, I wouldn't bet on it as necessarily being dead. I think it's literally sort of indefinite. It could still happen. But as far as how the decision's going to be made, it's sort of above my pay grade. But we'll see."

The sequel's current script was penned by Doctor Strange and Passengers writer Jon Spaihts, based on characters developed by Del Toro and Beacham. Del Toro is still producing the film alongside Mary Parent. No release date has been announced yet, but we'll keep you updated once we get more details. Here's hoping we'll see Maisie Williams show up in the sequel.
