Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim franchise has awakened after sleeping through development hell, and now it just got a new release date: February 23, 2018, TheWrap reports. Earlier this month, Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega was cast to play a lead role in the sequel to the 2013 robots vs. monsters film.

The showrunner of Daredevil Season 1, Steven S. DeKnight, is directing the film, and Del Toro will still produce. Del Toro said this about the casting decision:

"I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world' was our goal and I couldn't think of a better man for the job."

With Daredevil's former head writer directing the film, Jurassic World 2 writer penning it, and John Boyega starring, this better be better than the first one.
