No, George Lucas is NOT Returning to Write Disney’s Rogue One Spinoff Series

Last weekend, word came out that Star Wars creator George Lucas would be returning to Lucasfilm as the executive producer and writer for the studio's upcoming Rogue One prequel series centered around Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna).

Star Wars went wild hearing the news. There have been a whole lot of fans who've been hoping to see Lucas return to Lucasfilm. The Star Wars franchise has had its success, however, Disney has had some trouble with the galaxy far, far away with films like Solo: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Though Disney is coming up with an action plan to smoothen out the creases of the franchise, fans have been hoping that Lucas might be able to fix Star Wars.

The only problem is, the rumors that Lucas might return to the MCU has been nothing but that. Rumors.

According to ABC reporter Clayton Sandell, Lucasfilm is not going to bring back Lucas to produce and to write Captain Cassian Andor for Disney+.

"FACT CHECK: No, George Lucas is NOT returning to write/produce/direct the Cassian Andor series for Disney+. Yes, I'm embarrassed to say I checked into it and bothered actual sources. This has been Friday's edition of Debunking Ridiculous Star Wars Clickbait Rumors. As you were," the reporter revealed in a post on Twitter.

While the news might disappoint fans, Sandell is a reliable source of information. And besides, would Lucas really be willing to come out of retirement just to work on Disney's upcoming Rogue One spinoff series?

Lucasfilm's new live-action series, Star Wars: The Mandalorian, is available for streaming on Disney+.
