There might be a lot of interest building up over The Batman and the movie's new Dark Knight, Robert Pattinson, however, Joker director Todd Phillips doesn't really think that Joaquin Phoenix's version of the Clown Prince of Crime might ever find himself crossing paths with the Twilight star's Caped Crusader.
Speaking in an interview with Variety, Phillips was asked whether his take on the Joker would ever get to meet Pattinson's version of Batman, and it seems like the director doesn't really think that the two might ever meet in the DC Extended Universe.
"No, definitely not," the filmmaker told the entertainment news outlet.
Of course, that doesn't mean that Pattinson's Batman is never going to fight the Joker.
"Oddly, in the states, comic books are our Shakespeare it seems, and you can do many many versions of "Hamlet," Phillips explained, "There will be many more jokers, I'm sure, in the future."
Of course, we understand why Phillips wouldn't want Phoenix's Joker to collide with Pattinson's Batman. Not only does it fail to fit the timeline that Joker has, but the intense R-rated nature of the film may prevent Phoenix's version of the Clown Prince of Crime to appear in other comic book movies.
Right now there's a lot of excitement building up over Phillip's upcoming movie. The Joker has been gaining some great reviews from critics, and the buzz around the film has been electric, especially after the movie won the top prize at this year's Venice International Film Festival.
We can't wait for the film to premiere.
