'Oldboy' Director Park Chan-wook Set To Adapt Japanese Sci-Fi Novel 'Genocidal Organ

The director of Oldboy (The original Korean version one) and Snowpiercer, Park Chan-wook, is definitely one of my favorite filmmakers. When I first saw Oldboy on Netflix, I was pretty mind-blown by its shocking themes and brilliant acting performances; And Snowpiercer was fantastic on its own way, and still remains as one of the best science fiction films in my Top 10 list. Now, the visionary Korean director is set to tackle something exciting for his next project: a film adaptation of Project Itoh's 2007 Japanese sci-fi novel, Genocidal Organ, The Tracking Board reports.

Here's the synopsis:

The war on terror exploded, literally, the day Sarajevo was destroyed by a homemade nuclear device. The leading democracies transformed into total surveillance states, and the developing world has drowned under a wave of genocides. The mysterious American John Paul seems to be behind the collapse of the world system, and it's up to intelligence agent Clavis Shepherd to track John Paul across the wreckage of civilizations, and to find the true heart of darkness—a genocidal organ.

Just hearing about this news makes me want to jump in excitement because I know that it will be a movie worth anticipating. His Vengeance Trilogy (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance) are great, and I can't wait to see his visual style once again when Genocidal Organ comes out. The director is currently directing a Korean version of Sarah Waters's novel, Fingersmith and is set to direct the forthcoming western, The Brigands of Rattleborge.

An animated adaptation of Genocidal Organ has been made, but hasn't been released yet. There's still no word about the release date of Chan-wook's Genocidal Organ.
