There is little doubt that Zack Snyder's Justice League looks like an expensive project. However, the filmmaker had famously stated he would work on the Snyder Cut for free. So what made Snyder decide to forego a hefty paycheck? The 300 director has finally revealed his reason.
Snyder spoke about working on the Justice League director's cut in a new interview with Vanity Fair. Interestingly, he admitted to the outlet that "I'm not getting paid." He then revealed that he decided on this so the studio would ultimately agree to push through with the Snyder Cut.
"I didn't want to be beholden to anyone, and it allowed me to keep my negotiating powers with these people pretty strong," Snyder said.
Of course, that doesn't mean that producing a new Justice League didn't cost anything. According to Snyder, the studio had to shell out around $70 million for the Snyder Cut. Still, if it turns out to be a major success, Warner Bros. will get everything back this March.
There could be another reason why Snyder believes in the Snyder Cut so much. After all, Warner Bros.'s decision was pushed by the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement that started out as a mere Twitter hashtag. If the fans believed the director's cut deserves to be seen, then he's ready to stand with them all the way.
Zack Snyder's Justice League will stream exclusively on HBO Max in the US. It is also set to premiere at the same time in various streaming services and video-on-demand outlets. The film's worldwide premiere is set for March 18, 2021.
