There is little doubt that people were hyped up after seeing the first images from the live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop. However, there were also some fans who had things to say about the casting of Faye Valentine and the character's more practical costume in the Netflix series. Since then, Daniella Pineda has fired back at those who are questioning Faye's new look.
In the anime, Faye has a distinct look that consists of a red shirt, a very low-cut yellow top, and matching yellow booty shorts. However, Pineda's version of the character has been confirmed to be fully covered up. The revelation didn't rest well with some fans who went on social media to criticize the change.
Pineda is well aware of the criticism and decided to fire back at those who are complaining about the new look.
"First, I wanted to apologize to the fans that I did not anatomically match the Faye Valentine character," Pineda said in the video. "Six foot, double-D sized breasts, two-inch waist. You know, they looked everywhere for that woman and they couldn't find her, it was kinda weird. So they just went with my short ass, I know, am I right?"
She went on to point out that filming in an outfit similar to the one Faye wears in the anime is completely impractical so changes needed to be made.
"You know, we tried, but doing stunts in tissue paper, things disappear, they rip, sometimes just got lost… Anyway, like I was saying, that original costume, they made a couple of them, but like I said, they got sort of slurped up in my various crevices, never to be retrieved again, so we needed to build something that could withstand the test of time," Pineda stated.
It's understandable why the Netflix adaptation would go for a more practical option but fans were then quick to point out that Pineda's costume completely does away with Faye's trademark colors. In addition to that, some stated that Faye uses her sex appeal as a way to distract people in the anime but that is no longer the case with the live-action series.
Netflix has truly made major changes with Cowboy Bebop but fans still hope it will live up to the anime. Needless to say, we can't wait for the series to premiere this November.
Cowboy Bebop will premiere on Netflix on November 19, 2021.
