Batgirl and Static Shock Films Reportedly Set for HBO Max Release

There is little doubt that the success of Wonder Woman 1984 on its opening weekend alone has led to Warner Bros. making serious considerations about how films will be released in the future. For instance, a new report may have revealed that the studio has decided to pursue the Batgirl movie and release it on HBO Max. In addition to that, there are also plans for a film about Static Shock.

The New York Times recently did a profile on DC Films president Walter Hamada who is in charge of all the comic book movies released by Warner Bros. This includes the major tentpole projects like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash. However, the report also pointed out that there will be "additional superhero films" that will be added to the lineup, ideally two per year.

Interestingly, next year's additional superhero movies have already been revealed as the report adds that they will be "focused on riskier characters like Batgirl and Static Shock."

We already know about the Batgirl movie which was initially going to be helmed by Joss Whedon before the filmmaker dropped out from the project. For now, the only name attached to the film is Christina Hodson, who is working on the screenplay. However, there is a huge chance we'll get some updates on the movie early next year.

Meanwhile, Static Shock is a pleasant surprise considering that the plan for the metahuman getting his own film was only revealed earlier this year. Nevertheless, we'd love to see Virgil Ovid Hawkins starring in his own live-action movie soon.
