First Sonic the Hedgehog Motion Poster Teases the Character's Live-Action Movie Debut

Hoo boy, that Sonic the Hedgehog movie is coming out next year and a motion poster was just revealed, teasing what "The Fastest Thing Alive" is going to look like in live-action. We can see a shape for the character and his signature red shoes but the fur and eyes clearly look different, which might not sit well with fans. Still, if Detective Pikachu can change people's minds, this could too.

IGN not only revealed the motion poster via their Instagram, which can be seen below, but they were also able to talk about Sonic's new look with the team behind it. The creative team will be taking a page from the book of Detective Pikachu by making Sonic look more "realistic," which could be a problem or a positive, depending on the final image and first trailer.

Tim Miller, the film's producer and director of the first Deadpool movie, said that the goal was to make Sonic look more realistic. The fur will also be a big factor for the character since he will basically be naked if they don't give him that. Once again, it worked for Pikachu and might be a good look for Sonic. Hopefully, he doesn't look like the werehog in Sonic Unleashed.

"That was always Stage 1 of adapting it to what the real world is and what a real animal would be like. It would be weird and it would feel like he was running around nude if he was some sort of otter-like thing. It was always, for us, fur, and we never considered anything different. It's part of what integrates him into the real world and makes him a real creature."

Miller also mentions major changes made to Sonic's eyes, which he claims made Sega a bit unhappy because they're making him look more realistic rather than Pixar-like. We've all seen Sonic's eyes in the cartoons and video games so this is going to take some getting used to.

"I don't think SEGA was entirely happy with the eye decision, but these sorts of things you go, ‘It's going to look weird if we don't do this.' But everything is a discussion, and that's kind of the goal, which is to only change what's necessary and stay true to the rest of it. He's not going to feel like a Pixar character would because I don't think that's the right aesthetic to make it feel like part of our world."

Sonic the Hedgehog comes out on November 08, 2019.
