New Attack on Titan From Koei Tecmo Heading to Nintendo 3DS

Koei Tecmo's recent game release for the Attack on Titan franchise, dubbed AOT: Wings of Freedom, had skipped the Nintendo platforms entirely.

But those who are on the Nintendo 3DS can rejoice—they will be getting their own Attack on Titan game, albeit with an interesting spin on plot and character choice.

The new game is currently in development with Koei Tecmo's Ruby Party at the helm. This was revealed by the latest Weekly Famitsu (via Gematsu's translation). The game already has a working title, Attack on Titan: Escape from Certain Death.

Though details as to the actual narrative are sparse, it seems that production will collaborate with the TV anime's visual crew. Additionally, players now have the freedom to choose and customize their main character. Yes, no more Eren Jaeger, for now.

Attack on Titan: Escape from Certain Death will be set in an old castle following an original story. The hero will also be an original creation, but that character will be part of the Survey Corps.

Players will be put in the worst situation in the franchise: no equipment while lost in a castle. There's no mention of how the interaction with the Titans will be, if there ever are.

Character customization seems to be fairly expansive, since players can choose the gender of their MC. They will then be partnered with either Mikasa or Levi, depending on whether you choose a male or a female character.

As far as the timeline goes, the story will be set before the group encounters the Female Titan. Going by the anime, the only reason why you will ever be in a position where you will need to "escape from certain death" is when you are faced with a titan.

Going by that, perhaps we can assume that titans will still play a role in the game, even though the protagonist does not have the 3D Maneuver Gear? More importantly, the report also mentioned that it is an adventure game where players will take action with other characters as the game progresses.

Hopefully Koei Tecmo will bring more details to the table. Currently development for Attack on Titan: Escape from Certain Death is already at 30%, with no release date yet in sight.
