In Boruto: Naruto Next GenerationsEpisode 192, when Kawaki was a child, he used to chop wood all day just so he could save enough money to buy liquor for his father who is an alcoholic and abusive, and he would endure this every day. He had a friend, a goldfish vendor who is new in the village.

By the time he goes out of their house, some bullies picked on him, and it was the vendor who saved him and wiped off the blood he had on his face. The Inner, Delta, passed by and they saw the blood of Kawaki on the rag.

On the same day, Kawaki's misfortune seems like it doesn't end as his father gets abusive again for losing the liquor for that day. A gleam of light seemed to have finally arrived on Kawaki as Jigen arrived on their doorstep the same night and he literally paid and bought Kawaki from his father who didn't even mind him.

Jigen took Kawaki but it was later revealed that the vendor was actually a human trafficker and he wanted to sell-off Kawaki. Jigen sent Kawaki ahead of the tunnel and he was unscathed. The vendor withdrew and they both go to where Amado will be performing the ritual of Jigen. He assured Kawaki that he is in a safe place.

Back to the present day, Kawaki wakes up and Naruto is there and said the same thing that Jigen said to him making him wonder.
