While a season finale typically delivers closure to the series' main character, the last episode of Arrow will provide that but a little differently. Following the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, the last episodes of Arrow have already shown what it's like without the hero. However, the viewers will be able to relive some memories as the finale will be taking them back to where it all started.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, showrunner Marc Guggenheim talks about the difficulty of writing a series finale with the main character that's already dead. "It definitely made it more of a challenge, let's put it that way," he said. "It definitely required a different kind of finale."
However, Guggenheim pointed out that they've had this plan for over a year, which is a "long time" to "come up with ideas" and "stress-test" them. "We just embraced the idea that this would be more of an epilogue, more of a coda type of finale" he added, as opposed to an ending where the "major storyline is resolved."
He also said that while there are a "bunch" of ways to end a show, the Arrow's finale will be more of an "unconventional way" to end it, because they presented themselves with "an unconventional challenge" with the main character killed off.
