Game of Thrones Season 6 Premiere Date Announced

We may not know when George R.R. Martin's Winds of Winter is coming yet, but we do know that it won't be released before the new season starts, and we finally know when exactly Season 6 will air on HBO.

HBO has announced that Game of Thrones Season 6 will premiere on April 24. The cable network's Emmy-winning companion Veep and acclaimed comedy Silicon Valley will also return on the same night. As Entertainment Weekly previously reported, Thrones is debuting later than ever this year, but not by much. The series usually returns in late march, early or mid April. But HBO's winter block is being given a later-than-usual launch next month, which in turn pushes the shows returning to the schedule.

Earlier this week, George R.R. Martin posted a lengthy message explaining why he wasn't able to completeWinds of Winter before its deadline for it to be published before the new Thrones season premieres, so Season 6 will delve entirely into previously unrevealed narrative territory for the first time.
