Marvel Eternals' Director Calls Jack Kirby as the Foundation of the Whole Project

Oscar-winner director Chloe Zhao has impressed Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige. Her work on Eternals is believed by Feige as something phenomenal. However, the director is not taking on all the praises and commended the original creator of the comics where the Eternals were based from.

Feige and Zhao both spoke to Variety following the epic Oscar wins of the director. Zhao won the Best Picture and Best Director for her work on Nomadland. Feige sees Zhao's work on the award-winning film heavily mirrors her work on Eternals.

Feige stated in the interview that he had to keep saying that what he is viewing is coming right out of the camera with no VFX work involved. In the cut of the film, Feige showed to the Disney executives, there was a beautiful sunset with perfect waves and mist coming from the shore on the giant cliffside.

Feige also revealed that Zhao really fought to film in practical locations. Feige only realized that the techniques Zhao used in the Eternals were the same ones she used in the award-winning movie Nomadland. He realized what she was trying to do and what she was trying to bring to Marvel, which is her own artistry.

Zhao revealed her love for genre stories which influenced her work on Eternals. The director credited Jack Kirby, the creator of the Eternals. She stated that Kirby's imagination and incredible work is the foundation of it all. She also credited Marvel in the incredible journey it has built.
