The former Fantastic Beasts actor, Johnny Depp accused Aquaman actress Amber Heard of lying about what she did to the $7 million settlement she received in their divorce. Heard claimed that she donated all the settlement money that she received which Depp negated.
Depp is alleging that the actress has lied about the donation. In his allegations, instead of donating the money, she pocketed the money herself. Back in 2016, the ex-couple reached a divorce settlement where Heard said she didn't want Depp's money.
At the time, Heard said she will donate the money to two charities. Depp's legal team has looked into those donations to the Los Angeles Children's Hospital and the ACLU to find out how much the actress donated.
The ACLA has not responded to the multiple subpoenas. Meanwhile, the Children's Hospital LA's documents showed that Heard donated $100,000, not $3.5 million, which is half of the $7 million.
The hospital was also concerned with the discrepancy between what Heard pledged and what she donated. This concern led the hospital to write to her in the summer of 2019, asking whether or not her pledge will be fulfilled.
Depp's legal team also cited a letter to the Children's Hospital LA which serves as their proof that Heard lied about the donations. Depp's team also stated that Heard lied not just in interviews but in the evidence, she gave to the London court where Depp lost his defamation case against The Sun.
During The Sun's case, Heard testified that she remained financially independent during their marriage and donated her entire divorce settlement to charity. Apparently, Heard's donation was cited by the judge as one of the reasons why he decided to rule in favor of The Sun. In writing, it was said, "Her donation of the $7 million to charity is hardly the act one would expect of a gold-digger."
Heard's attorney did not specify how much her client donated but stated that the actress intends to fulfill the $7 million pledge eventually. Heard's lawyer also blamed Depp for the delay of the pledge because the actress had to spend millions defending herself against Depp's accusations.
However, the issue was Depp filed the complaint in March 2019, around two and a half years after Heard declared that she will donate her entire divorce settlement in August 2016.
The hospital received a check for $100,000 as a down payment on her $3.5 million pledge. In October 2018, a Dutch current affairs show interviewed the actress where she said, "Seven million dollars in total was donated, I split it between the ACLU and Children's Hospital Los Angeles."
As of the moment, the legal battle between the former couple continues to heat up. Meanwhile, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3 is set for a July 2022 release while Aquaman 2 is set to be released in December 2022.
