This weekend, Deadpool blew our expectations away at the box office, raking in over $135 million. The film also contains a bunch of Easter eggs and references for fans to find, but there's one part that might put the film in hot water: a Marvel-owned character that screenwriters Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick featured without permission from Disney or Marvel Studios.
Fans who are not familiar with the Deadpool comics would probably not get the Easter egg as it was cleverly hidden with a slightly altered name and lack of back story, and the final fight scene of the film may have played out without showing any connection at all. The writers, however, confirmed that Wade Wilson's "old colleague, Bob," is one of Deadpool's best friends and unofficial sidekick: Hydra Bob.
20th Century Fox, the studio who made Deadpool, doesn't own the rights to Hydra Bob, Marvel Studios does, but while they didn't have the legal rights to depict him, Bob was brought in anyways on a technicality. Paul Wernick explains:
Fabian Nicieza and Reilly Brown created Hydra Bob for Marvel Comics in 2007. In the movie, Bob is introduced as one of Ajax's henchmen, and although he has a background in special forces and a wife back home like Marvel's Bob, there's no mention of Hydra.
