There's no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic gravely affected the entire film and entertainment industry and its effect is so massive, a lot of cinemas are still non-operational up to this point. We still don't know when the crisis subsides and it's opting studios to reevaluate their strategies.

The situation opted some major production outfits like Marvel Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures to shift their focus to streaming services, and although we're still basically testing the waters in terms of its effectiveness, it can't be denied that it's already paying huge dividends to films like Wonder Woman 1984.

However, veteran actor Tom Hanks believes that the film industry will be able to bounce back soon and there's one key component in other to achieve that — and that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a recent interview with Collider, the Toy Story voice actor shared his thoughts regarding the future of cinema amid the pandemic.

"A sea change was due, anyway... It was coming. Will movie theaters still exist? Absolutely, they will. In some ways, I think the exhibitors — once they're up and open — are going to have the freedom of choice of what movies they're going to play... Big event motion pictures are going to rule the day at the cinemas... News of the World might be the last adult movie about people saying interesting things that's going to play on a big screen somewhere, because after this, in order to guarantee that people show up again, we're going to have the Marvel Universe and all sorts of franchises," the Forrest Gump actor says.

Whether you'd like to admit it or not, Hanks raises a pretty valid argument, and considering a lot of us are trying our best to cope up with the pandemic, we really could use a jolt of inspiration, and Marvel films can definitely provide that.

Speaking of the MCU, WandaVision will hit Disney+ on January 15, 2021.
