The entire DC fandom was in shambles when it was revealed by WarnerMedia last week that the long-rumored Superman film to be helmed by J.J. Abrams is in fact happening. When you think about it, this shouldn't come as a surprise considering Abrams is already attached to do Justice League Dark and possibly Constantine over at HBO Max.

The biggest shocker of this news is arguably the fact that it's set to be a reboot of the iconic comic book superhero which of course means that Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill could be out of the picture. What's even more intriguing is that the project will still be set in the DC Extended Universe.

We reported last night that Warner Bros. is looking to cast a person of color to play the next Superman and it's no other than Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan who has also been rumored to be under WB's radar for quite some time now. It's still unclear which iteration of the character he'll actually play but Giant Freakin' Robot points out that Jordan could end up playing Calvin Ellis from Earth-23.

There's also a good chance that the acclaimed actor could play another version of the Man of Steel — Earth-2's Val Zod who happens to be the son of iconic Superman villain General Zod. Digital artist @spdrmnkyxxiii unveiled his amazing artwork depicting Jordan as the character and it's too awesome to ignore. Check it out here:

If the rumors end up becoming true, I hope Cavill's take on the character still has a place in the universe. It would be a damn shame if he ends up getting booted out of the franchise he pretty much kickstarted along with Zack Snyder. And assuming Jordan portrays Val Zod in the same universe (not Earth-2), his potential clash with Kal-El aka Clark Kent would be epic considering Kal killed Zod in Man of Steel.

Meanwhile, Zack Snyder's Justice League hits HBO Max this March 18.
