Lana Wachowski's Matrix 4 is slowly coming together. After the announcement a few weeks ago that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be playing one of the leads, we have one new cast member in the form of one NPH.

According to Variety, Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) has joined the cast of the fourth Matrix film. We don't have any details on who he's playing yet, but he'll be joining a cast which includes Abdul-Mateen, Keanu Reeves, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Despite his knack for comedy, we know that Harris is actually a pretty versatile actor—unlike his Count Olaf from A Series of Unfortunate Events. Harris has been proven himself in serious films like Gone Girl, and I expect his role in Matrix 4 to be no less dramatic.

Or maybe it could be fun; I guess we'll just have to wait and see to find out. Harris is a pretty accomplished physical performer so I would love to see him do some kung fu with Keanu Reeves.

We don't really know what the plot for the fourth Matrix movie is, but it's likely going to go the reboot/sequel route. I have a feeling we're going to be seeing a younger cast with the original actors acting as mentors to pass the torch; much like what they did with Star Wars, Blade Runner, and the upcoming Terminator: Dark Fate.

No specific release date has been set for Matrix 4, but the movie is aiming to hit theaters sometime in 2022.
