After the garbage fire that was M. Night Shymalan’s The Last Airbender, Netflix is teaming up with original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko to take one more stab at a live-action Avatar. We don’t have any significant updates yet, but former ATLA director Giancarlo Volpe gives us a little tease of what’s he’s seen from the series.
When asked by a fan on Twitter on whether he’s involved with the new show, Volpe replied:
To be more specific, Volpe followed it up with, “For everyone wondering, DEFINITELY good cry.”
We don’t know when Netflix plans to give us our first look at the series, but with a lot of special effects being required for the show, I would expect it to be a while before we get a teaser—maybe late into next year.
While I was personally hoping we just followed another incarnation of the Avatar (maybe after Korra), I’m kind of curious what they would bring with this live-action adaptation. I’m already a bit skeptical, but with the involvement of the original creators, we could get something better this time around. I just hope the bending is more fluid this time as compared to the film which had benders take turns when it came to their attacks.
Remember that one clip where it looked like it needed a bunch of Earth benders to move a rock?
No release date has been set for Netflix’s live-action Avatar remake, but hopefully, we get an update this coming SDCC 2019.
