Anthony Russo Wants You To See Other Heroes’ Stories In ‘Captain America: Civil War’

Captain America: Civil War is about the Cap/Steve Rogers, but that doesn't mean other characters in the film won't be getting their own screen time.

According to Comicbook.com, Director Anthony Russo explained in a recent interview how Captain America: Civil War will still take other superheroes' screen time into consideration despite a huge cast ensemble.

That's a really good question. I mean, my brother and I, we've always loved ensemble storytelling. And if you look at a lot of our work, we worked in ensembles a lot from our first movieWelcome to Collinwoodto our television shows" replied Anthony Russo. "We love ensembles, but I think we're kind of in tune to the idea of telling the story that has more than a single protagonist. We like that kind of story. We like depth storytelling. We like layered storytelling. Joe and I, as we were developing the script with the writers, we like to pick a path and look at the script from every different character's point of view. Even though it's Cap's movie, and the ultimate way we decide where to go with the film is filtered through Cap's perspective, we do take time and walk ourselves through the story from every single character's point of view as if its their movie.

We know how important these characters are. We love these characters ourselves. We know that there's somebody sitting out there in the audience whose favorite character is that one, even if that character has only a few scenes in the movie. We want to make sure everyone's coming to the movie and it's going to get a lot of satisfaction and have a lot of fun with what's being done with their favorite character in the movie, regardless of who it is. We work really hard to do a lot and do something special with characters who may only have limited screen time in the film.

It has been a mystery how the Russo brothers will be able to pull off Captain America: Civil War with its huge cast of characters. They would have to explain the story behind each character's motive.

Although it was explained in Avengers: Age of Ultron why Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) has so much scorn for Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), other characters like Ant-Man and Hawkeye need more fleshing out.

I myself had been worried of the scale of Captain America: Civil War. Fortunately, the Russo brothers knows exactly how to please every fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Marvel Comics. It looks like there's more than just the battle between Earth's mightiest heroes to look forward to in Civil War. Audiences will be seeing a deeper look into the psyche of their favorite Marvel characters.

Captain America: Civil War is slated for release on May 6.
